Where I’ve Been

Tuesday, March 13th 2007

Ok. I’ve missed you, I really have. It’s been awhile since I’ve had a smidgen of time to devote to my site. I really, really miss making fun illustrations for the sketchbook. So where have I been? What have I been up to?CCRM 07 Project

The big project is finally finished! I was hired to create a full-color 32 page Summer Camp Brochure, highlighting the power of the experience and getting families excited for 2007. This project can be amazingly complicated and involves a lot of variables and a lot of design challenges. One perfect example is that because there are two camp sites highlighted in one brochure, we flip the two sites (so that one cover is on one side, and the other on the “back"). The two different sections each have a color scheme to help navigate and understand the content.

This year the overall curriculum theme dictated the look of the entire brochure. The theme is “Heroes” and gave me the chance to revisit one of my favorite childhood (ok, and beyond) loves: comic books. I created a logo for the theme that is used throughout the project and will be modified for staff shirts. But wait, there’s more.

They also really wanted to wow their camper families and came up with the wonderful idea of including a poster with the mailing. I developed a third color scheme to “describe” the organization that manages the camps. The poster is a perfect way to reward camper families with something for their wall as well as a promotional piece.

And finally, they wanted a web site that could share the same information in a dynamic, powerful way - and carrying the same theme. I used Expression Engine to work as a way to sort and show the many programs from both sites. This install of EE will run all of their sites in the future, but handled the content beautifully. Oh, and while I was at it we decided to bring a new look to an existing site. It’s a place holder for a major and long, overdue redesign coming in the future.

So that’s where I’ve been. It’s been good to be busy… But not too busy to post some art… I have some good things in the hopper, be on the look out. I can’t believe I just used the word hopper.
